Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) is an autonomous, non-profit, non-governmental organization established on May 29, 1995 to work for the protection, promotion and enjoyment of women's human rights. In order to eliminate all forms of discrimination, the Forum uses law as an instrument and ensures women's, children's and minority's rights.
discriminatory laws and to domestically and effectively implement the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The seven-member team came together and established FWLD in Kathmandu for the promotion and protection of women's rights, reformation of discriminatory laws and to advocate for the construction of significant laws empowering women. FWLD has been involved in filing noteworthy Public Interest Litigations which is a master tool used for the reformation and effective enforcement of laws; and have been involved in conducting researches on issues related to Child Marriages, HIV & AIDS, Women's Sexuality, Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights, Trafficking and Sexual Harassment. We have expansively studied and updated the Discriminatory Laws of Nepal and have been incessantly struggling to eradicate atrocities, stigma and discrimination that have been emanated as a result of these prevailing discriminatory laws. We provide Legal Aid and Services to clients who have been the victims of discrimination namely: trafficked victims, HIV & AIDS victims and the sexual minorities. FWLD has been building up the capacity of the District Resource Groups of 23 districts of Nepal especially on issues of Violence against Women and Children. The members further train their Village Development Committee (VDC) members and broaden awareness all over Nepal.
Relentless contribution of providing voter's education to the public, who are oblivious to the system of voting in the Constituent Assembly (CA) Elections, is being done by FWLD in conjunction with various other civil society groups and NGOs. As the day to the CA elections (April 10, 2008) approaches, so does the intensity of the voter's education. It is a prime moment for the Nepalese people and everybody seems to be sincerely preparing for the big event. We have encompassed 19 districts in providing education to the public. We are the member organization of the National Election Monitoring Alliance (NEMA) and have been keenly involved with 21 districts of Nepal in the monitoring process and making arrangements for quality trainings to the election booth observers. FWLD has been focusing her programs and raising voices of the marginalized groups in the CA process along with the voter's pressure group and the policy makers.
FWLD has commenced a novel campaign to pressurize the Nepalese Government to formulate and enforce Anti-Domestic Violence in Nepal. The campaign commenced on 1 April 2007 and is being consistently conducted on the 1st of every English calendar month and will persistently continue till the government enacts the law.
